ECB President Lagarde reported to the EP for the fourth time in 2025

EU/ENG - ECB President Lagarde reported to the European Parliament in early December for the fourth time in 2025. She essentially confirmed what she's been saying since last summer.
Lagarde considered the ECB "well positioned" on interest rates, noting that inflation has now returned to 2% and that the euro area economy is showing better signs than expected. In this context, the president opened up the possibility that the December macroeconomic forecasts could be revised upward, thanks to a more favorable economic environment than expected.
Looking ahead, Lagarde emphasized that "the ECB Governing Council will continue to respond flexibly to emerging challenges and, if necessary, will explore new policy tools to pursue its objective of price stability." According to Lagarde, "It is essential that other policies take the lead in strengthening Europe's prospects and reducing vulnerability to future shocks. This means creating the right conditions for Europe's sources of economic strength to reach their full potential, in particular by making the Single Market truly unique."

The President emphasized in her report's conclusion that the ECB will warmly welcome the European Commission's upcoming package on capital market integration and supervision, as "these proposals are crucial to overcoming fragmentation, improving the efficiency of capital markets, and fostering innovation.
