Three EU countries went to the polls on Sunday, May 18: Romania, Poland and Portugal.

EU/EN - Three EU countries went to the polls on Sunday, May 18. Romania faced Nicușor Dan, the pro-European mayor of Bucharest, won in the second round of the presidential runoff in Romania. In Brussels, there is no hiding. In European capitals, there is a sigh of relief for the defeat of George Simion, an ultra-nationalist, pro-Russian, member of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians. In Poland, Rafał Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki advance to the second round of the presidential elections. 31.4% of the votes went to Trzaskowki, a pro-European and mayor of Warsaw, close to Tusk, while 29.5% went to Nawrocki, supported by Pis, the party of former conservative prime minister Morawiecki. The results of the polls on Sunday, June 1, will tell us who will be the new president in Warsaw. Outgoing centre-right Prime Minister Luís Montenegro won again in Portugal, in the early legislative elections on Sunday 18 May. Two parties follow at a distance. Surprisingly, the right-wing populist Chega party with 22.6 percent of the vote. And the Socialist Party, defeated even though it had the same number of MPs (58) as Chega. Putting together a government for Montenegro will not be easy.

A Lisbona governare sarà diffcile.
