The appointment of Weidmann's successor in January 2022.

EU/ENG - A likely candidate to succeed Weidmann, who resigned after 10 years, as president of the Bundesbank in January 2025 will be found within the new government led by Social Democrat Scholz. The Social Democrats and Greens could push for the appointment of someone who will not interfere too much with a program of strong public spending to finance the energy transition, provided that the Liberals forgo the appointment of someone consistent with Weidmann's rigorism.

Sooner or later, during the two months leading up to 2022, the indication will have to emerge that adequate guidance is needed for the German interpreter of the ECB's monetary policy.
