In Europa occhi puntati sulla FED che lascia i tassi invariati

Il costo del denaro resta fermo in una forchetta fra il 5,25% e il 5,5 %, ai massimi da 22 anni.

Da Francoforte, sede della Banca centrale europea, alle capitali del Vecchio Continente, i riflettori sono stati tenuti ben accesi sulla Federal Reserve statunitense alle prese a Washington con la decisione di lasciare invariati o meno i tassi di interesse. 

Alla fine la banca presieduta da Jerome Powell ha tenuto il costo del denaro fermo in una forchetta fra il 5,25% e il 5,5 %, ai massimi da 22 anni. Si tratta della seconda “pausa” da giugno considerando che la stretta monetaria sta raffreddando l’inflazione Usa, diminuita dal picco del 9,1% al 3,7% di agosto (a giugno però era scesa fino al 3%), anche se resta lontano dal target della Fed del 2%.

La Fed segnala che “se approprito” alzera di nuovo i tassi tassi di interesse nell’ultimo trimestre del 2023. La Fed, ha sottolinetato Powell nell'attesa conferenza stampa del 20 settembre , “farà tutto il necessario per centrare gli obiettivi del suo mandato, ovvero la stabilità dei prezzi e la massima occupazione”. 

Secondo la Fed, nel 2023 l’economia degli Stati Uniti crescerà del 2,1%, e non dell’1% come si prevedeva a giugno. «L’attività economica cresce a un ritmo solido – ha detto Powell -. Il mercato del lavoro ha rallentato ma resta forte. L’inflazione resta elevata».

Una buona notizia per l'amministrazione americna con la segretaria la Tesoro Yanet Yellen che si auspica comunuqe di non dover tribolare per approvare il bilancio a fine 2023: la mancata approvazione da parte del Congresso delle leggi per prevenire lo shutdown potrebbe alimentare rischi di rallentamento dello slancio dell'economia.
