EU Leaders agree on €50 billion of reliable financial support for Ukraine until 2027

EU/EN - Following the significant steps forward made in December with the granting of candidate country status to Ukraine, the 27 heads of state and government of the European Union have reached an agreement to include 50 billion euros in the multiannual financial framework of the EU budget for Kiev. The decision for the funds to Ukraine was made unanimously during the extraordinary European Council on 1 February. In Brussels, the announcement by Prime Minister Michel was followed by a chorus of interviews by European leaders and a climate of general satisfaction with the outcome of the summit, particularly important in light of the refinancing problems for Ukraine at war coming from the United States.

The refusal of Hungarian leader Orban to join the agreement was thus reinstated thanks to the informal diplomacy activated by the Council that had been working hard to find a solution.

Appreciation and relief in Kiev for the unanimous and concrete financial support of the European Union for the Ukrainian defense from the aggression of Russia that for two years has shown no signs of giving Ukraine a break.
