The European Union will invest 150 billion euros in Africa

EU/ENG - The Heads of State and Government of the European Union and the African Union met in Luanda, the capital of Angola, on November 24 and 25. Seventy leaders, 27 Europeans and 55 Africans, attended the summit in Angola.

A priority in Luanda was the provision of European Union funding for African development. Europe has long been talking about reinvesting in Africa. At the Angola summit, the European Union presented African leaders with a massive investment package, the Global Gateway, amounting to a staggering €150 billion.

The priorities of the European Global Gateway in Africa are investment in the green and digital transitions and the promotion of sustainable growth, through the consolidation and, in some countries, the actual implementation of healthcare and education welfare infrastructure.

This was confirmed by Ursula von der Leyen, who significantly defined Europe and Africa as "partners by choice." "It's no longer time to be just a supplier of raw materials," Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, president of the African Union Commission, retorted with particular force. Certainly, a conflict over African raw materials is set to intensify, with China having for years been committed to supporting many African countries with massive infrastructure financing in exchange for supplies of raw materials.
