Kyiv, European allies pledge harsher sanctions on Russia if Moscow refuses ceasefire

I volenterosi europei da Zelensky il 10 maggio. Lanciato ultimatum alla Russia: “Tregua o nuove sanzioni”

EU/EN - Macron, Merz, Tusk and Starmer met with Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev on May 10 and spoke with other European leaders. A separate phone call was then made with Trump. It was decided to have US special envoy Steve Witkoff transmit a 22-point proposal with the request for a 30-day ceasefire.

French President Emmanuel Macron, in a press conference at the end of the meetings in the Ukrainian capital, reiterated that the countries adhering to the coalition of the willing will launch "massive and coordinated" sanctions, including with the United States, against Russia if it violates the 30-day ceasefire. This was reported by the France Presse news agency. "In the event of violations, we will launch massive and coordinated sanctions between Europeans and Americans," warned Macron. The new German Chancellor Merz also recalled Ukraine's commitment to peace since March 11, when Kiev had accepted the US proposal for a thirty-day ceasefire, and reiterated, on behalf of the new government in Berlin, Germany's commitment to stand alongside Ukraine under attack.
