“Disuguaglianze, conflitto, sviluppo”, Fabrizio Barca's new book

EU/ENG - In this book, eloquently titled “Disuguaglianze, conflitto, sviluppo” (Inequality, Conflict, Development) available for purchase starting in late October, Fabrizio Barca attempts to provide answers to the crisis caused by Covid-19, inequalities, conflict, and development, driven by the questions posed by Fulvio Lorefice.

The renowned economist and former minister attempts to tackle head-on the issue of a comprehensive strategy that a political entity wishing to be the architect of a transformation worthy of the challenges of the present should adopt. This is consistent with many of the theses developed by Barca himself and many intellectuals gathered in the Inequalities and Diversity Forum (DD Forum), an autonomous cultural and political alliance centered on Article 3 of the Constitution, founded in Rome in February 2018 from the meeting of eight active citizenship organizations and the world of research, gathered in an assembly of over one hundred people.

Barca makes no concessions to the political faction he has always supported: the Italian left. Its representatives, its most significant figures, its ruling groups, according to the economist, have been severely tested by a long economic crisis that has increased inequality, and by a parallel political crisis. The current debased role of political parties and the growing gap between governments and governed, lacking strategic thinking, are the key factors. Barca suggests several strategies to avoid further losing the connection between the study of reality and its transformation. What is needed is a vision, which has been lacking for years, one that can precede and accompany political action.
